Science laboratories
Our extensive facilities in St Andrew's Building include:
A Science Study Centre with PCs and full library facilities including books, scientific journals and on-line learning resources. The Study Centre is staffed at all times and can be used for both whole class research or individual study.
Four general purpose laboratories, each equipped with a data projector. Two laboratories possess fume cupboards suitable for chemistry practicals and one laboratory has incubators and waterbaths for microbiological work. Specialist equipment includes over 40 microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, high temperature ovens, exercise bike and a wide range of data-logging apparatus. The laboratories are used by all science students whether on vocational, academic or higher level courses.
A project room and an analytical room. Equipment in these rooms includes analytical microscopes, infra-red spectrophotometers, visible and UV light spectrophotometers, flame photometers and autoclaves. These rooms are used by both advanced and higher level students when conducting analytical experiments or individual projects.
Preparation rooms and a chemical store for use by the technicians.
