Photography

A cameraEvery picture tells a story, so careful consideration of photography when producing promotional materials for the College is important. Photography can be used in various ways, from purely informative - showing the campus, buildings, real life at Worcester to aspirational images used to promote a prospectus or as part of a campaign.

As a general rule, try not to use images that have come from a wide variety of sources on the same project. It can be glaringly obvious when you have one professional high resolution image and another taken by a disposable camera.

Finding the right image can be difficult and finding the right image on a budget means that a four page leaflet doesn’t always justify a photo shoot.

Something else to consider is the College’s photo stock library. The Marketing Unit hold a wide range of images from students to sites and locations around campus. There may well be occasions when this resource would provide a suitable image for your project.

Another good source of photography in these cases are online photo libraries. There are many of these which now have images that are royalty free. Royalty free images mean that you don’t have to worry about traditional licensing, you find an image, buy it and it’s yours - simple! Remember though that you don’t have an exclusive right of use, so you may see the same image on other publications for other companies or universities. It is important that you also consider image resolution and file size before purchasing any images.
