About this course

Is the course right for me?

Does Biology determine the way we behave? Was Einstein right to consider time as relative? How do we know that E = mc2? If you find yourself asking these questions, then you are already thinking like a scientist. With our Access to HE Diploma in Science, you will be on your way to a degree course in Science or a Health Profession such as Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Radiography or Microbiology. The course will take you on a fascinating journey into the worlds of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science. That career in research science could be closer than you think!

What will I be doing?

You will study a range of modules, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science. In Chemistry, you will learn about atoms, molecules and energy transfer. Physics will introduce you to atomic and nuclear science, and Biology focuses on human studies and different methods of investigation. Alongside your main programme, you will also learn vital study and career development skills, such as writing skills, time management and presentation techniques.

Entry requirements

We welcome applications from anyone who wishes to move into Higher Education, regardless of age. There are no formal entry requirements. However, you will be asked to complete a 2-hour online test to assess your suitability for the course if you do not currently hold grade C GCSEs in Maths and English Language. You will also be asked to attend an interview where you will have the opportunity to discuss your options and decide on the most suitable course.

Assessment

You will be assessed on a continuous basis throughout the course through essays, reports, exams and presentations. You will have the opportunity to experience a formal examination setting to help prepare you for exams in Higher Education.
