Is the course right for me?
Why do we behave the way we do? What makes us happy, jealous, angry or sad? Are we free or controlled by society, government and the media? When you choose to study an Access HE Diploma in Social Science you will be encouraged to ask thought-provoking questions about human behaviour and the way we choose to live our lives. It is a fascinating subject, but especially suitable if you are thinking of a career that involves working with people, such as Social Work, Community Outreach, Policing or working with charities.
What will I be doing?
You will study four modules, including Media Studies, Psychology, Social Welfare and Sociology. You could choose to study topics such as child development and welfare, social interaction and conflict, and psychopathology. There will also be the opportunity for you to strengthen your study skills in the areas of presentation, communication, research methods and writing.
Entry requirements
We welcome applications from anyone who wishes to move into Higher Education, regardless of age. There are no formal entry requirements. However, you will be asked to complete a 2-hour online test to assess your suitability for the course if you do not currently hold grade C GCSEs in Maths and English Language. You will also be asked to attend an interview where you will have the opportunity to discuss your options and decide on the most suitable course.
Assessment
You will be assessed through a variety of methods including essays, exams, seminars and reports
