Diploma in Art, Design & Media Level 2

About this course

Is the course right for me?

Have you recently completed a Level 1 course? Or achieved less GCSE’s than you thought you would? Would you like to develop your visual skills and begin to experiment with your own creative ideas? Our Level 2 Diploma in Art, Design and Media gives you the opportunity to put your passion for art and design into practice in preparation for a higher level of course. Your focus will be on researching new methods, embracing creativity and letting your own ideas and personal experiences inspire your work. The only limit is your imagination!

What will I be doing?

You will learn through a mix of theory and practical experiences, combining tutorials and class discussion with studio activities and workshop sessions.

You will explore a wide range of working methods and outcomes through open-ended project briefs, from printing and graphic design to 3D craft-work, sculpture and digital image-making. And don't forget painting and drawing as well! You will also learn about how art and design skills are used as a career, and how to build a portfolio to help you achieve your goals.

Entry requirements

You will be expected to have a minimum of 1 GCSE at grade D or above, preferably in an art or design based subject. If you don’t have the right qualifications but still have evidence of sufficient art and design skills, you may still be considered for a place on the course.

You will be invited to attend an interview, where you will be asked to complete a short project of work. We will also ask you to bring some examples of your art and design work with you to discuss during your interview.

Assessment

Every piece of work you produce can count toward your qualification; your lecturers will mark your work as you complete each project and will give you feedback on how you could improve your grades even further. Projects build into course-units and you will gain points when you complete each unit. The points you gain will be added together to determine your final grade. You will also complete a Functional Skills unit and this will be assessed by a short on-line test.

You will be invited to attend an interview, where you will be asked to complete a short project of work. We will also ask you to bring some examples of your art and design work with you to discuss during your interview.

What next?

This course will open up opportunities to continue studying Art and Design subjects and to progress to a higher level 3 course. You may wish to consider one of our Level 3 Extended Diplomas in Art & Design, Fashion & Clothing with Textiles, Graphic Design, Media Production or Photography. From a level 3 course you could progress to Higher Education courses such university degrees or HNDs. Or, at this stage, you will be qualified to use your artistic design skills to find employment, such as working as a studio or retail assistant, in an art gallery, photography studio, radio station, graphic design studio or fashion retail.
