Is the course right for me?
Are you an aspiring filmmaker, director or producer? Can you see yourself making animation for a film studio or broadcasting the news on national television? Media is a creative industry, full of inspiration and ideas. But it can also be competitive and demanding. It takes more than luck to succeed in this sector. You will need talent, determination and buckets of enthusiasm. Give yourself a head start with our Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (in TV, Film and Animation) Level 3. Our course offers a wealth of practical and critical skills, and the vital knowledge you need to get ahead in the industry.
What will I be doing?
From TV & film production and directing, to script writing, web design and journalism, you will get involved in a range of practical and creative media-related tasks. You will study a mix of theory and practical skills, giving you the opportunity to apply the knowledge that you learn in the classroom to hands-on tasks such as planning magazine layouts, taking photographs, animating television graphics, producing 2D cartoon and 3D clay-animation, writing newspaper articles, and even shooting and editing your own film productions!
You will also learn about the practices, regulations and legal issues that face the media industry. During the course, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to undertake work experience and, in your second year, you will have the chance to specialise in an area of your choice.
Entry requirements
You will have, or be expecting to achieve, four or more GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably with at least a grade B in English Language. Alternatively, you will have achieved a Merit or Distinction in a relevant Level 2 Diploma.
You will be invited to attend an interview, where you will be asked to bring a portfolio of any work you may have. This could include any films, videos, animation, photography, web design, graphic design or artwork which you have created. At the interview, you will discuss your suitability for the course and plans for higher education.
Assessment
You will be assessed on an ongoing basis at the end of each unit. There are no exams.
What next?
Upon completion of the course, you may like to progress to a higher education course such as our Foundation Diploma in Art and Design or a HND in Media Studies, Television and Audio Production, Sound Engineering or Audio Technology.
After higher education, you may wish to consider a career in Television or Radio Production, Broadcasting, Programme Research, Film Editing, Advertising or Marketing.
