About this course

Is the course right for me?

Do you enjoy drawing, illustration and photography? Have you thought about a career in Graphic Design? If you like to experiment with new ideas and create new designs, this is the course for you! Graphic Design is a broad subject that covers the creation of websites, logos, magazines and brochures, alongside animation, illustration, and photography. With our hands-on course, you will get involved in designing and creating different forms of artwork, while also learning the underpinning theory you need to understand the world of design.

What will I be doing?

You will study a range of subjects including photography, life drawing, visual communication, font design, animation, illustration and the history of design. You will also learn how to generate ideas and concepts and use specialist computer applications that will help you with your work.

We encourage you to use your creativity and develop your own area of interest. You will even have the opportunity to work with outside agencies on 'live' projects that allow you to develop and display your skills.

Entry requirements

You will have, or be expecting to achieve, five or more GCSEs at grade C or above, with at least a grade B in English Language. Alternatively, you will have achieved a Merit or Distinction in a relevant Level 2 Diploma.

You will be invited to attend an interview, to which you will be asked to bring your art and design portfolio. At interview, you will discuss your suitability for the course and plans for higher education.

Assessment

You will be assessed on an ongoing basis at the end of each unit through project work. You will also study a Key Skills Communication qualification, which will be assessed by a portfolio of work. There are no exams.

What next?

If you want to develop your ideas and skills beyond this course, you could progress onto our HNC/HND in Graphic Design or our Foundation Diploma in Art & Design Level 3 and 4.
