Pattern Cutting

Apply for this course

About this course

For those who wish to make their own garments and find commercial patterns unsuitable or ill – fitting. This is an introductory course to help get you started with drafting your own patterns, whilst under the guidance of an experienced garment maker.

Professional pattern cutting using block pattern manipulation techniques, based on a standard size 12, will be studied. During the course you will draft a basic garment block of your choice, from which you will create a working pattern. The blocks will be made for bodices, skirts, trousers and sleeves. Once the basic block is understood, the art of block manipulation will be introduced to achieve a variety of pattern shapes and silhouettes.

The course will include dart manipulation, grain lines, balance marks and how to design simple silhouettes.

Handouts will be provided throughout the course, building to a comprehensive reference file.
