Do you love finding out information and coming up with new stories? Can you imagine yourself as a news reporter on national television? Our brand new Diploma in Journalism Level 3 offers an exciting introduction to the world of print and broadcast media. From research processes and interview techniques to opinion writing and news editing, our course offers the inside information and training you need to get ahead in the industry. You will learn all the skills you need to work as a journalist or continue to a university degree in Journalism or Media.

What will I be doing?

You will gain an understanding of both the creative and technological sides of the media. You will learn how to communicate with a mass audience by creating features, interviews, letters to editor and special articles.

Our course covers the whole process of producing a report, from planning and coming up with a concept, to visualizing the news story and writing a piece. You will also learn how to capture, lay-out, design and produce pieces of photo-journalism. If you are interested in broadcast media, you will enjoy a number of practical exercises in reading and anchoring for television and radio. You will even have the chance to try television news production!

You will also learn about other sectors that inter-relate with journalism, including advertising, marketing, public relations and newspaper management. You will explore the history of the UK press, and the laws and ethics that regulate different media organisations.

Entry requirements

You will need 5 GCSE grades A-C in academic subjects, including a minimum grade C in English Language and Maths.

Assessment

You will be assessed through different tasks, including practical activities and written tests.
