Do you enjoy giving your friends manicures and facials?Or can’t wait to try out the latest make-up trends? If you love the world of beauty and want to turn your passion into your vocation, then this is the course for you! Whether you are a school leaver or already have experience in the field, our course offers you the training and experience you need to develop a great career in Beauty Therapy, whether in a salon, spa or as a mobile therapist.

What will I be doing?

Our course balances theory with some great hands-on experience. At our on-site salon Fountains, which is open to the public, you will learn how to provide manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and eye treatments, and discover different ways to apply make-up. You will carry out reception duties, offer advice to customers and promote products to clients.

You will practise your skills on one another until you are ready to serve paying customers. So be prepared for a makeover!

In addition to practical training, you will also study an extra qualification called Certificate in Customer Service Level 2. This will teach you about different beauty techniques and will cover areas such as client consultation, and health and safety practice.

Every January, we organise an Enrichment week full of workshops, talks and training activities. From sessions on tube waxing and spray tanning to visits from top skincare companies such as Clarins and Dermalogica, our Enrichment week is an excellent opportunity for students to top up their skills and explore a range of new topics. We even offer trips to places such as Aston and Finchers in Birmingham and the Beauty Show in London.

Entry requirements

You will need a reasonable standard of GCSEs in different subjects, including English. A professional attitude, smart appearance and high standards of personal behaviour are also essential! As part of the interview process, you will be invited to visit Fountains Salon to experience the salon environment. You will also be asked to prepare a research project to show your skills, knowledge, and commitment to the course.

Assessment

You will create a portfolio of your work based on the skills you develop at Fountains and your tutor will mark this as you complete each task. Each unit is delivered individually, so you can work at your own pace and be assessed when you feel ready.

What next?

After completing your NVQ Level 2 you will be ready to work as a Beauty Therapist in a beauty salon, spa, sports centre or even on a cruise liner! However, you may wish to consider our Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 3, which will equip you with a higher qualification to be able to offer body treatments.
