About this course

This course uses Sage accounting software to develop skills in dealing with book-keeping to trial balance.  The course is broadly equivalent to GCSE standard.  This qualification also gives people the opportunity to claim 'good, sound' computerised book-keeping experience allowing them to update current CV's with all important information which prospective employers like to see. 

The course is designed to give people a real understanding about how the accounts relate to a business and culminates in generating reports for both internal and external use.  It brings together the financial statements of a company and gives people an understanding about how this information can be used, reported and analysed in order to generate information managers and business owners require to operate.  This course would be ideally suited to an individual who operates computerised accounts within a company or a step in the right direction for those planning a fruitful career in book-keeping.

Outcomes

  • Understand the business and computer environment
  • Setting up the computerised system
  • Create and maintain accounts and enter opening balances using Trial Balances and Financial Statements
  • Enter transactions into the Sales and Purchase Ledgers
  • Enter transactions into the Nominal Ledger
  • Updating and controlling Cash and Petty Cash transactions
  • Produce management information relating to Customers and Suppliers
  • Carry out reconciliations to verify information generated
  • Produce Internal and External Reports using selection criteria and parameters

Entry requirements

This qualification is designed for those with some knowledge of manual book-keeping (for example those holding the IAB Level 2 Certificate) or experience of computerised book-keeping.

Assessment

Assessment is by one externally marked computer-based examination.

What next?

On successful completion of this course you may wish to progress to the IAB Diploma in Computerised Accounting Level 3.
