About this course

Is the course right for me?

Would you like to work with computers but not sure where to start? Can't tell your monitor from your mouse? Fear not, this course is here to help! Our Diploma in IT Level 1 is designed for complete beginners with either very little or no previous experience of working with computer systems. We will teach you everything from switching on your machine and sending emails to using spreadsheets and producing presentations. With an IT qualification, you will learn the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in the 'dot-com' world.

What will I be doing?

Our hands-on course introduces you the world of IT through a mix of class-based learning, tutorials and practice. This means that you will learn about a subject in class and then practice it on the computer!

You will gain a basic understanding of computers, security and the internet. You will learn how to use word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, desktop publishing, multimedia, design and imaging software. By the end of the course, you will be able to carry out a range of tasks, such as planning websites and designing layouts.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but you should be enthusiastic about working with computers and keen to learn new skills. We will also invite you to attend an interview.

Assessment

You will create a folder of work and your tutor will mark this as you complete each task. There are no written exams or unit tests.

What next?

This course is a recognised entry requirement for working in the IT industry. This means that you can begin work as soon as you finish your last assignment! You could become a junior in computer retail, network support or administration.
