From computer and console to arcade and wifi, games development is a fast-moving multibillion-pound industry. There are many stages involved in creating and designing a game, including character and object animation, audio, programming, testing and producing. Our course takes you to the heart of this exciting process and offers you the skills and knowledge you need to develop a great career in gaming. Play on!

What will I be doing?

In your first year, you will learn about network design, computer hardware, software development and website design, as well as professional development. You will use a range of programmes, including Microsoft Access, Abode Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop.

In your second year, you will study a range of specialist units covering topics such as animation, interactive media authoring, computer game platforms and technology, game design and development, and web server scripting. You will even have the opportunity to build your own software project!

Entry requirements

You will need five GCSE grade A*-B, ideally including a minimum grade C in Maths, or a Merit grade in a relevant Level 2 Diploma, such as our Diploma for IT Professionals Level 2. If you are a mature student, then we will also consider your previous IT experience.

Our Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels.

Assessment

You will be assessed through coursework, reports, practical activities, projects and short tests.

What next?

The world of games development is full of variety and you can choose to specialise in a range of areas.
