Our top-up course enables you to take your education to the next level and achieve a full Diploma. You will develop a range of engineering and problem solving skills ready to seek a career as a Senior Construction Technician.

How will I learn?
Our course offers a part-time programme of study lasting one year. We offer an exciting, varied and challenging approach to learning that mixes theoretical study with a strong vocational element.
What will I be doing?
You will study a range of topics including Geology and Soil Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology, and Analytical Mathematics. Your focus will be on the different structures, materials and designs that you will be using in the workplace. by You will also have the opportunity to learn about Civil Engineering, Highway Design, Traffic Engineering and Transportation.
Entry requirements
You will need a HNC in Construction or Civil Engineering to apply for the course.
Assessment
You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through written assignments, individual projects, group work and exams. You will also meet up regularly with your tutor to discuss personal progress and plan your studies. You will take part in tutorials, projects and work experience and have the opportunity to visit construction site projects where appropriate.
What next?
After gaining your HND, you will be ready to progress to the third year of a degree programme. Alternatively, you could enter direct employment.
There are a variety of areas to specialise in, including planning and design, civil and structural engineering, construction and building services or surveying. You could work on redevelopment schemes, conserve listed buildings, or carry out structural work on highways, bridges, railways and tunnels. Or why not become a Building Surveyor, Architect or Electrical Engineer? As you progress in your career, you will be able to move on to management roles that carry more responsibility and higher wages.
As a construction worker, you will enjoy a varied job role, a great deal of outdoor work and the satisfaction of completing a project and seeing the finished product.
