About this course

Is the course right for me?

Are you looking for a varied and rewarding career in construction? Have you considered becoming a Plumber or working in Building Services? From installing sanitation systems and servicing boilers to laying underground drainage pipes, plumbing and building is a highly skilled field. There's more to it than fixing a dripping tap! Our course will introduce you to the wide range of materials, new technologies and industry know-how you need to succeed in this sector.

What will I be doing?

Our course balances theory with some great hands-on experience. You will study five mandatory units that will introduce you to building services, engineering, electrical installation, heating and ventilation, plumbing, refrigeration and air conditioning.

You will learn the vital skills you need to become a Plumber, starting with basic techniques covering the installation and maintenance of plumbing systems and components, cold water and hot water systems, sanitation, and central heating. You will also learn about health and safety, and environmental issues.

There are no additional costs for this course.

Entry requirements

You will need a reasonable standard of secondary education, ideally with a minimum grade D in Maths and English. You will also be keen to enter a trade in Plumbing or Construction and eager to learn new skills.

You will be invited to attend an interview, where you will complete a test for basic construction skills.

Assessment

You will complete a number of practical tasks in the workshop that will be marked by your tutor. You will also complete some written theory work in the classroom and study centre.

What next?

There will be a variety of options open to you after you have finished your course. You may want to progress to a NVQ in Plumbing at Level 2 or 3. With further training, you could choose to work for a Plumbing company, do contract work on large projects or set up your own self-employed business. With hard work and commitment to the job, Plumbing can be a well-paid business.
