Is the course right for me?
Do you enjoy working with tools and building things? Are you a natural problem-solver? If the answer is yes, then you should think about a career in construction and Carpentry. Our Diploma in Wood Occupations Level 1 will introduce you to the basics of working with wood. From learning how to use power tools to working on your own creative projects, our course will teach you everything you need to know to kick-start a great career in Carpentry and Joinery.
What will I be doing?
You will spend most of your time in the workshop at our Construction Centre of Excellence in Malvern, where you will use different construction and joinery tools to produce basic wood joints. You will also learn how to prepare and use portable power tools.
In addition to practical training, you will learn about the theory of construction. You will gain important communication skills and a working knowledge of health and safety practices, and different building methods.
There are no additional costs for this course.
Entry requirements
You will need a reasonable standard of GCSEs in different subjects, with ideally at least a grade D in Maths and English. You do not need to have any former experience of construction, although some would help. Most importantly, you will be passionate about the industry and committed to learning a trade.
Assessment
You will complete one practical test and an online multiple choice test for each technology unit that you complete. There are seven units in total.
What next?
After you have completed the course, you can choose to progress to a Level 2 qualification or an apprenticeship in Carpentry or Joinery.
