Is the course right for me?
You may have recently achieved your Level 1 Diploma or already have some experience and be looking to gain a qualification. Either way, our course offers you the training and experience you need to take your skills to the next level. From sanding down paintwork and stripping old wallpaper to installing new ceiling moulds and mantelpieces, painting and decorating is a specialist skill. There is far more to it than using a paintbrush! You need to be artistic, precise and organised, and have a good working knowledge of your materials. Spray guns at the ready!
What will I be doing?
You will learn how to carry out a range of advanced techniques in painting and decorating, such as broken colour effects and textured finishes. You will learn how to apply different paint finishes using HVLP spray guns. You will also develop your wallpapering techniques and widen your knowledge of construction technology.
By the end of the course, you will be able to erect, dismantle, maintain and clean a range of equipment and working platforms. You will be skilled in identifying different hazards and components of scaffolding, and will understand how to measure and calculate different quantities of materials.
Additional Costs: You will be required to pay £25 for course t-shirts
Entry requirements
You will have completed a Diploma in Construction Painting and Decorating Level 1 or an equivalent qualification. You will also possess a reasonable standard of secondary education, including a minimum grade D in Maths and English.
You will be invited to attend an interview, where you will need to demonstrate basic construction skills and an interest in painting and decorating.
Assessment
The course is broken down into different units and you will complete an online test at the end of each unit.
You will also complete a practical workbook and your tutor will mark this as you complete each task. Your workbook is a folder where you will keep information about each practical task that you have completed.
There are nine units in total and you will need to complete all of these units, and an additional final practical task, to achieve the full award.
What next?
If you wish to develop your skills even further, you may want to consider a Diploma in Painting and Decorating Level 3 or an apprenticeship in Construction. As you gain more experience, you may want to become self-employed or train towards a supervisory or managerial position.
