About this course

Is the course right for me?

Are you thinking about a career as a Diagnostic Technician or Mechanic? If you want to develop the skills you learned in your Level 1 or 2 Diploma, then you need this course! Our Level 3 Diploma offers you the opportunity to take your technical knowledge to an advanced level. You will be introduced to new technologies and learn how to diagnose and fix complex system faults.

What will I be doing?

You will learn through a combination of class-based theoretical learning and hands-on practice in the workshop. You will study advanced engine, chassis, transmission, electrical and electronic technology. By the end of the course, you will be able to inspect different vehicles, rectify their faults and assemble new vehicle parts.

You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, and other skills associated with working in a garage, including improving your functional skills.

Entry requirements

You will have a Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle) Level 2 or prior experience of the automotive industry.

Assessment

You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through practical activities, such as diagnostic tasks. You will also complete written and online tests to show that you understand the theory behind the course.

What next?

Your Level 3 Diploma will qualify you for immediate employment as a Diagnostic Technician. You could choose to complete an Advanced Apprenticeship in this area or begin working for a garage, dealership or on a self-employed basis. Alternatively, you may want to consider our Foundation Degree in Automotive Engineering.
