About this course

Is the course right for me?

You may have recently achieved a Level 2 qualification or already be working in the industry and looking to gain a qualification. Either way, you will have a good understanding of basic electrotechnical principles and be ready to take your skills to the next level. With an Electrotechnical Technology FTEI Level 3, you will gain the advanced knowledge and training you need to work successfully and independently as an Electrician.

What will I be doing?

You will learn about the underlying principles of electrotechnology and study a range of topics, such as electrical science, installation, inspection, maintenance, testing, diagnosis, faultfinding and repair. During the course, you will have the opportunity to learn about health and safety requirements, develop your IT and Functional skills and get involved in a range of teambuilding activities.

You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills through a range of practical activities held in our specialist workshop.

Entry requirements

You will have a Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Level 2 or a relevant Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering.

We will invite you to attend an interview, where you will complete a selection test and demonstrate your passion for the industry.

Assessment

You will complete practical assignments and written exams. You will be assessed on your theoretical knowledge and the practical projects that you complete in the workshop.

What next?

After completing your FTEI Level 3, you may want to progress to our HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or, if you are employed, a Foundation Degree in Electrical Systems and Installation or Electronic Systems and Control.

With a qualification in Electrotechnology, you can choose to become an Installations or Contracting Electrician, Power Engineer, Technical Sales Engineer or even an Armed Forces Technical Officer!
