Our natural progression routes between different programmes and courses make it easier for you to improve your qualifications and enhance your learning experience

How will I learn?

We deliver our HNC in Electrical Engineering over three different semesters within an eighteen-month period. During this time, you will attend College for one day a week. What will I be doing?

During your first year, you will learn the foundations of engineering and learn the fundamental skills and knowledge you need to succeed in the sector. Your second year modules will build on your first year of learning and will develop your depth of understanding with higher thinking and cognitive skills.

You will study the following modules during the course:

  • Analytical Methods L3
  • Analytical Methods L4
  • Engineering Science
  • Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Instrumentation and Control Principles
  • Electrical/Electronic Principles
  • Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation

    Assessment

You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through assignment-based coursework, although there are some internally set tests. You will be assessed by the College and then externally moderated by BTEC Edexcel.

    What next?

Engineers work in a variety of areas, including product and process development, manufacturing, consultancy, research and development, data management, logistics, IT Support and Sales. Possible job roles include Applications Engineer, Project Engineer and Design Engineer.

To gain a supervisory or management position, you will need to consider further study in an engineering related subject. You can choose to ‘top-up’ your qualification to a Foundation Degree in Electrical Systems and Installation or HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
