Our Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations will introduce you to the sector and help you gain the practical skills and knowledge you need to work in engineering. You will even have the option to specialise in your favourite area, such as machining, fitting, mechanical maintenance or welding. So, if you are looking for a solid foundation for a career in engineering then look no further. This is the course for you!
What will I be doing?
At the beginning of the course, you will learn how to work safely, efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment. These skills will help you in the workshop when you are working with drawings and documents to produce actual pieces of working machinery.
If you choose to specialise in Machining and Fitting, you will learn how to operate machinery such as centre lathes, milling machines, pillar drills and pedestal / surface grinders, and read precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and verniers. You will also use various types of hand files, hacksaws, drills and reamers to mark out and produce pieces of work.
Our Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance option will introduce you to the tools and equipment used to locate and fix machinery faults. You will learn how to manufacture, repair and replace faulty components, and carry out electrical maintenance, testing and installation techniques.
Lastly, our Welding option will help you gain the skills you need to produce a variety of welded joints. You will also undertake fabrication forming exercises using processes such as Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Manual Metal Arc (MMA), and improve your Functional Skills.
