This award is aimed at people who are following a modern apprenticeship programme or for those people who are wishing to follow a career path within the mechanical or manufacturing engineering industry.
The course is ideal for people wanting to gain underpinning knowledge and skills required for more advanced qualifications such as City and Guilds Level 3 or BTEC Level 3 awards.
Core Units:
Unit 1 - Working Practices in Engineering
Unit 2 - Using and Interpreting Engineering Information
Special Units:
Unit 3 - Applied Electrical and Mechanical Science
Unit 4 - Selecting Engineering Materials
Unit 5 - Selecting and Using Secondary Machining Techniques to remove Material.

All five units are assessed by coursework.
Some visual assessment in practical subjects may be applicable.
What next?
Students may wish to progress to City & Guilds 7578 Level 3 Certificate in Engineering or, following a successful interview, go on to do the BTEC Level 3 qualifications.
