Future Plans: Get a job in an office
I came to the College because I thought it would be good for me to learn new skills. We go on lots of trips which I really enjoy and the rest of the group are good fun. A typical day for me includes speech and language lessons, followed by lessons to help me get a job and progress to the next level of study. We also go on work placements and complete portfolios. I have really enjoyed working on new things and the job path group are great.
Student Success
Richie’s personalised learning programme has focussed on improving his communication and developing specific skills such as cooking and computers. His Mum got in touch to say how pleased she was with his progress, in particular how he now helps out with the cooking at home. Richie follows a total communication approach to converse with others and uses speech, signing, symbols, writing and body language to great effect. From at first being reluctant to speak up Richie has become one of the most outspoken students in his communication class, telling us each week what he has been up to over the weekend and coming up with great ideas for the class story. He has even taken a lead role in a number of plays. Richie’s confidence has grown immensely over the years. About college Richie says “College is Super, I like working on the laptops and worksheets”.
