Are you looking to gain a qualification but not sure where to start? Do you need extra support to help you achieve your goals? Welcome to STEP! Our 25-week programme will help you develop a range of functional, vocational and personal skills. In addition to a core qualification in employability and personal development, you will have the opportunity to access Work Placements and Vocational Tasters relating to your specific interests and career goals.. You will also benefit from learning support, enrichment activities and careers advice to help you get into education, training or employment. So, what are you waiting for? What will I be doing?
You will carry out a range of learning activities that will help improve your confidence and teamwork skills.
Our work placement activities and vocational tasters give you a real idea of working life and help you to explore your own career possibilities.
Depending on your level of progress, you will achieve a City and Guilds Certificate or Diploma in Employability and Personal Development. You will also improve your functional skills in Maths, English and IT.
STEP CONSTRUCTION
Are you interested in a career or further study in Construction? Not sure where to start? This new option within the Foundation Learning STEP programme focusses specifically on construction skills. You will take part in weekly practical workshop sessions and achieve an accredited qualification. Plus, you can still access all the other benefits of the STEP programme and develop your Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT.
Entry requirements
You will need to be aged 16-18 and not in education, training or employment to enrol on STEP. Our course is aimed at entry-level learners who need support to develop their functional, personal and employability skills.
Assessment
You will work with your tutor to set your own personal targets and assess your needs. To achieve the qualifications attached to the course, you will complete a folder of your work. Your tutor will mark your work and meet with you to give you feedback.
What next?
Our STEP programme will help you develop the skills you need to move onto one of our Level 1 courses in Hospitality and Catering, Health and Social Care or Uniformed Services. If you complete your Functional Skills units, you may want to consider progressing to a Level 2 course. Our excellent team of support staff will be on hand to offer careers support and guidance throughout your time at College.
