About this course

Part-time courses in Maths and English are available in two hour sessions during the day from Monday to Friday and in the evening on a Tuesday and Wednesday from 7.00-9.00pm.

They are completely FREE and start at regular intervals throughout the year. The duration of your course will depend on your skill level.

Courses are aimed at adults seeking to improve their English and Maths skills and to gain a nationally recognised qualification up to Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE) that will assist with job prospects, entry requirements for higher level courses and everyday skills for life.

Courses are delivered by supportive, experienced tutors in a friendly environment. Students benefit from:

• Increased confidence
• Enjoyment of learning
• Improvements in Maths, English and ICT for employability and everyday life
• Opportunities to progress through the different levels at own pace.

Qualifications that are available, dependent upon ability and progress, include:
• OCR Adult Literacy and Numeracy (Level 1 and Level 2)
• City and Guilds Literacy and Numeracy (Entry 1 – Entry 3)
• OCR Functional English and Maths (Entry 1 – Level 2)

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for the courses, however, students are expected to be committed to attending classes as regularly as possible and on time.

Students wishing to start on a part-time course are individually assessed prior to enrolment.  A one-to-one interview is also carried out to determine the most suitable class.

Assessment

All learners on a course will have personal targets set to promote learning and support progression. Exams are taken when students are ready.
