Is the course right for me?

What is gender bias? Why are older people treated differently to young people? Our Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 will help you answer a range of exciting and important questions about health, society and the way we live. Our course builds on the knowledge and skills you have gained from your Level 1 course to give you a deeper insight into this area or, If you are new to the subject, offers you a fascinating introduction to Health and Social Care.

What will I be doing?

You will learn through a combination of class-based study and practical experience.

You will study a range of topics, including communication, individual rights, individual needs, safe environments, cultural diversity, anatomy and human lifespan development. You will learn about health and safety principles, barriers to communication, the different systems within the body and the processes that are needed to keep us alive. By the end of the course, you will understand the different care needs of individuals at different stages in their lives and understand how you can value people as individuals. You will also acquire a deeper understanding of the changes and developments that occur in the human body from conception to old age.

For your work experience placements, you can choose to experience a range of care settings. These could include nurseries, pre-schools, primary schools, day centres for older people, day centres for people with additional needs, residential homes for older people and nursing homes.

You will also attend various work experience placements, organsied through the College, to help you gain pratical experience.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of two GCSE grades A-C, preferably including English Language, along with a genuine interst in the Health and Social Care sector and the motivation to succeed.  You will also need to complete a CRB check and provide a satisfactory reference.

Assessment

You will complete a portfolio of your work, which will contain projects and assignments. Your tutor will mark your work and offer you feedback to help you improve your studies. You will also complete practical activities.

What next?

If you want to progress to further study, then you will want to consider an Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 or our National Programme in Children's Care, Learning and Development. 

A career in Health and Social Care can be hard work but also rewarding and very satisfying. Some of the job roles you could consider include Physiotherapist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse, Nursery Manager or Family Support Worker.
