Have you ever imagined yourself as the next Jamie Oliver or Lorraine Pascale? Then look no further than our Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery, which offers you the skills, training and knowledge you need to develop a great career in the food industry. You will have some basic skills and experience as a chef, probably from a role where you work under supervision. You will also be passionate about the food industry and keen to learn new skills.

What will I be doing?

Our course offers a hands-on approach that balances theory with the practical experience of preparing and serving food.

At our on-site restaurant, Spires, you will have the opportunity to learn how to cook rice, pasta, poultry, meat, fish and egg dishes, as well as preparing soups, sauces and desserts. You will learn workplace essentials such as menu planning, health and safety, and dealing with dietary requirements. In addition to practical training, you will also study a variety of topics ranging from menu design and handling payments to the principles of good customer service.

Entry requirements

You will need a Diploma in Professional Cookery VRQ Level 1 or relevant industry experience. We will invite you to attend an interview where you will have the opportunity to show your passion for the industry and your enthusiasm for the course.

Assessment

You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through written assignments, practical tasks and online multiple-choice tests.

What next?

With a Diploma in Professional Cookery VRQ Level 2, you can apply for assistant roles such as Waiter, Waitress, Bar Assistant, Junior Catering Assistant or Commis Chef.

As you progress in your chosen area, you will begin to take on roles with more responsibility and potential. In the future, you could become a Catering Manager, Events Organiser or even run your own restaurant!
