About this course

Is the course right for me?

Are you creative, hard working and a natural performer? Do you dream of a career on the stage? Look no further, because our Diploma in Music & Performance Level 2 will put you in the spotlight! You will work on your own and as part of a group to learn, create and perform a range of musical and theatrical shows. With our experienced and enthusiastic staff on hand to teach you choreography, vocal and performance techniques, you will be dancing, acting and singing your way to the top in no time!

What will I be doing?

You will spend a lot of your time on stage, but there is more to this course than performing! You will learn all about the Arts industry and the different job roles that exist within this sector. You will go behind the scenes discover how a show is created, where the props come from, and how they are designed and built. You will think about the different ways that performing artists create a sense of drama on the stage and you will begin to study a range of acting techniques and styles.

In addition to your practical training, you will also develop your ICT skills and produce written work and marketing material, such as posters and leaflets, to help advertise your shows.

Entry requirements

You will have a reasonable standard of secondary education, with at least two GCSEs in academic subjects. If necessary, you can choose to retake your English and Maths GCSEs whilst studying for the course.

We will invite you to attend an audition where you will perform a monologue piece. We will provide you with a monologue, or you can choose your own. Either way, you must be able to perform the piece from memory.

Assessment

You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through written and practical work. Your tutor will also observe and mark your performance work. You will be expected to attend all public performances that take place at the College and we would encourage you visit other local theatres to widen your knowledge of the industry.

What next?

With your Diploma in Music & Performance Level 2, you can choose to study our HNC in Performing Arts, followed by a university degree in Drama, Dance or Theatrical Performance.

You can choose from a range of job roles in the Creative and Performing Arts industries. Why not become a Choreographer and create new dance pieces? Or co-ordinate set, costume and sound design as a Production Manager? You could even choose to specialise in costume design, lighting production or dance therapy!
