Is the course right for me?
Performing Arts is a growing industry that covers many different areas, from music and dance to non-traditional forms of spectacle such as mime, illusion and arthouse theatre. Even circus art and spoken word! Wherever your interests lie, our Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Level 3 will deepen your understanding of this fascinating industry and help you to develop your skills ready for life on the stage!
What will I be doing?
Our hands-on course combines practical work with the study of acting, singing and dancing. How about trying street dance, hip-hop or funk? Or maybe a bit of Opera? With our specialist vocal training and dance classes, you will have the chance to test out a range of different styles and techniques. We encourage you to express your creativity both on and off stage through public performances, production projects and backstage work with technical theatre, lighting and sound.
You will also learn the theory you need to support your skills, with units on the history of theatre, rehearsal techniques, dance improvisation and stage management. We can even help you prepare for drama school with audition practice.
During the course, you will participate in at least four public performances, join class visits to West End theatres and benefit from special workshop activities with visiting practitioners. There may even be an opportunity for you to become an extra on the set of a film or local theatre production!
Entry requirements
You will need five GCSE grades A-C in academic subjects, including at least a grade D in English and Maths. Ideally, you will also have a GCSE in Drama, but this is not essential.
We will invite you to attend an audition where you will perform a monologue piece. We will provide you with a monologue, or you can choose your own. Either way, you must be able to perform the piece from memory.
Our Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels.
Assessment
You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through practical performances and written assignments. Your written work will contain self- evaluations of your own performances.
What next?
After completing your Extended Diploma, you will be ready to enrol in a specialist Dance School, Drama School or Music Academy. You may also like to consider our HNC in Performing Arts or a university degree in a related subject.
With further training, hard work and dedication, you could become a Theatre Director, Stage Manager or an Actor in a West End musical!
