Is the course right for me?
Do you love science and enjoy practical learning? Then why not add a Subsidiary Diploma to your A Levels! Our Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science is a coursework-based qualification designed to provide you with the skills you need for the workplace as well as higher education. With three pathways to choose from in Biology, Chemistry and Science, and a wealth of knowledge to discover, our course is the perfect addition to your programme of study.
What will I be doing?
You can choose to study the course for one day a week over two years, or for two days a week for one year. We place a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and you will carry out a range of experiments, tasks and practical activities, alongside learning important laboratory techniques and important health and safety procedures.
If you choose Biology, you will learn about biochemistry, microscopy, microbiology and human physiology. In Chemistry, you will explore organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, chemical reactions and their applications. Physics will cover medical physics, energy changes, and electrical circuits and their applications.
Entry requirements
You will need five GCSE grades A-C, with a minimum grade C in Science and grade D in English and Maths. Alternatively, you will hold a Merit grade in a Level 2 or First Diploma in Science or relevant work experience within the science industry.
Our Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to one full A Level.
Assessment
You will be assessed on an ongoing basis through coursework assignments with an emphasis on practical work and individual research. There are no exams or unit tests.
