PTLLS Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (City & Guilds 7303)
Apply for this courseAbout this course
This 10-week introductory course if offered 3 times a year in October, January and April and is an essential first step rather than a teaching qualification in its own right. It is compulsory for any new teacher entering the sector and should be taken immediately on entry; it should be completed within the first year of your entry into the profession.
If you are enrolling on the full DTLLS diploma and are able to start this immediately, the PTLLS course will be included and need not be taken separately. PTLLS is likely to be necessary for any new teacher who does not start teaching in September; the DTLLS course has a September start, so if you begin teaching after September, PTLLS may be essential to you.
PTLLS will also suit you if you teach only a very small number of hours a week and want to take up to five years to get the full DTLLS qualification. In this case, you might choose to take the PTLLS course in your first year, adding the other qualification over time.
Applications are accepted for the PTLLS course throughout the year.
This Course will suit you if you are:
- A new teacher who starts teaching after September and cannot start a DTLLS course until the following September.
- Someone who is not sure whether to qualify as a teacher, who wants to find out if teaching is right for them by doing a 'taster' course.
- Someone without a teaching role, such as someone who does voluntary sports coaching and would like to gain some experience.
- If you would like a 'survival kit' to support you in the classroom.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but the following are recommended:
- A Level 3 qualification in your chosen subject or equivalent experience
- A Level 2 qualification in Literacy to show you area ready to study at Level 3.
