Is the course right for me?
What comes to mind when you think of working in Travel and Tourism? Busy airports, club reps and day trips? This is an industry that encourages you to travel, but it's not all sandy beaches and blue skies! The travel industry is exciting and full of new discoveries and adventures. However, it is also hard work and you will need to be prepared to work as a team, organise your workload and deal with some tough customers. Our Diploma in Travel and Tourism Level 2 will introduce you to this rapidly expanding sector and help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to become a travel and tourism expert. The sky's the limit!
What will I be doing?
Our course mixes classroom-based learning with some great hands-on experience. At our on-site travel agency, Spires Travel, you will have the opportunity to sample life as a Travel Agent, selling holidays to members of the public and advising customers on a range of tourism services and travel extras such as insurance, trips, visas and car hire.
Our course begins with an overview of the travel and tourism industry and you will learn about the different job roles available to you in this sector. You will also explore local visitor attractions and key destinations across the UK and Europe.
You will also study an additional qualification called the NCFE Level 2 Extended Award in the Principles of Customer Service in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism. This qualification teaches you how to welcome customers, deliver high standards of customer service and develop good communication skills within Travel and Tourism and the wider Hospitality industry.
Extra Costs
There are a number of extra costs involved in this course. You will be required to wear a uniform and this will cost around £90 - £100.
We offer a range of exciting trips to help you gain a working insight into the industry. We would encourage you to attend these trips and they will cost around £80 to £100 a year.
Entry requirements
You will need at least two GCSE grades A-D in academic subjects including a minimum grade D in English Language. You will also need to be passionate about travel and tourism, and eager to learn new skills!
We will ask you to complete a piece of work and bring it along to discuss at your interview.
Assessment
You will complete one on-line exam and a range of written assignments, presentations and practical activities.
Your attendance will be split over three days and you will be expected to carry out private study at home or in our study centre.
What next?
With your Level 2 Diploma, you can apply for our Diploma in Travel and Tourism Level 3, followed by a Foundation Degree in Travel and Tourism Management.
There will be many job opportunities open to you in this ever-expanding industry. You could work in a Travel Agency, become an Overseas Holiday Representative or train as a member of Air Cabin Crew. Or why not become a Tour Guide, Tourism Officer or work as a Children's Activity Worker on a cruise liner? Whichever route you choose to follow, you will have the opportunity to travel all over the world, explore new cities and immerse yourself in some fascinating cultures.
