Is the course right for me?

Millions of people work in Uniformed Services. They include Firefighters, Police Officers the various brands of the Armed Forces. Their work is varied, demanding and vitally important. This is an exciting sector and can provide secure, relatively well-paid jobs and excellent careers for the right people. If you enjoy working with people and are willing to accept discipline, our Diploma in Uniformed Services Level 3 is the course for you!

What will I be doing?

You will investigate different aspects of Uniformed Services through practical activities, group work, presentations, visits and class trips. Our aim is to deliver a hands-on and interactive learning experience that will increase your confidence, heighten your knowledge of the sector, and help you develop your teamwork and communication skills.

You can choose from a range of specialist units that reflect your own interests and career aspirations. How about undertaking fitness testing and training to prepare you for a career in Uniformed Services? Or exploring the impact of war, conflict and terrorism on our society? You will also investigate custodial care services, human rights, crime, government policy and the democratic election process. You will learn the importance of discipline, authority, command and control when dealing with public problems and disturbances.

You will have the opportunity to participate in outdoor and adventurous expeditions. Throughout the course, you will improve your Maths, English and IT, and develop vital planning, management and leadership skills.

Entry requirements

You will have five GCSE grades A-C, including a minimum grade D in English and Maths. Alternatively, you will have a Diploma in Uniformed Services Level 2 with a Merit grade, in addition to at least one GCSE at grade D or above.

Assessment

Your assessment will be ongoing and will consist of group presentations, written tests and practical demonstrations. You will also complete an in-depth research project into a public services topic that reflects your own personal interests.

What next?

Our course is an excellent stepping-stone to a degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Uniformed Services.

There are some exciting careers to think about in this sector. You could train as a Police Officer or Firefighter. Or have you thought about becoming an RAF Officer or Criminal Intelligence Analyst? Or how about entering the Army or Navy?
