Student Union adding to student experience
Several months have gone since Worcester College of Technology’s first Student Union President was elected, promising to act as a voice for the students of the College. Now in the College’s continuous efforts to improve the student experience the much anticipated SUB (Student Union Bureau) was officially opened this week, finally offering a permanent home for the student union officers and a recreational environment for the students to enjoy.
The official opening was done by Richard Matthews from Stone Computers who generously donated several computers to the project, followed by a speech from the Student Union President David Hull-Blanchard and City Councillor and College Governor Jo Hodges. At the event students and visitors were able to see first-hand the new facilities offered and even challenge several Worcester Wolves basketball players to a game of virtual basketball on a new games console available for use by students.
Councillor Hodges commented “The College Corporation has always supported students in enabling them to have their own space within the College and we are really pleased that thanks to space created by recently relocating offices into nearby Virginia House that this has now become a reality”.
Many people associate a Student Union more with a University than a College, making Worcester College of Technology one of the more unique colleges across the region. The new facilities available to students include a pool table, several games consoles, board games, computers, vending machines and a projection system. The new facilities also give students private access to all the student union representatives at the College.
Student Union President David Hull-Blanchard commented “The lack of a dedicated student recreational space is something which many students have previously suggested they would like to see at the College and I am pleased to see that we have been able to make this a reality. Very few colleges can offer the same service and facilities which are now available to students at the College and it’s testament to quality of services we have to offer”.
The newly formed SUB is just one of the numerous ways Worcester College of Technology are aiming to improve your student experience while at the College. In your free time you have the opportunity to get involved with a variety of activities and even go on regular trips to places like Alton Towers and skiing abroad.
