College makes first donation of the year to local charity
Staff and students at Worcester College of Technology have already raised almost £400 for local charity The Joanna Brown Trust, which aims to encourage involvement in sport.
The money raised will be the first donation fron an on-going commitment from the College, who recently named The Joanna Brown Trust as one of it’s Charities of the Year, with all funds raised over 2012 being donated to the cause. The money raised so far comes from a Christmas Fancy Dress Volleyball Competition and the College Carol Concert.
The cheque, presented by the College Principal Stuart Laverick and Lecturer in Sport Judd Doughty, was greatly received by Richard Brown who started the charity in memory of his sister. Joanna died in tragic circumstances shortly after visiting the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He commented “After founding the trust, it is amazing to receive the backing of an organisation as large as Worcester College of Technology. We are really grateful that they have decided to back us for the forthcoming year.”
Mr Doughty added: “In this Olympic year it’s fantastic for anyone to be involved with sport and our links with The Joanna Brown Trust highlight the important work that the charity does around the world . We are honoured to be involved with such a great cause”.
