Correspondence...
Hannah and Andrea are the first to arrive in the department at 8:30. As the other members of the HR Team have children, they start work at 9:30 allowing them time to take their children to school.
Hannah starts the day by opening any post and answering email queries. This can sometimes take well over an hour depending on the queries.
Organisation...
The closing date for the current vacancies is only a few days away so Hannah spends time sorting applications and adding names to the shortlisting packs so that its not a mad rush on the closing date.
Administration...
Because its nearing the end of the academic year there are several people planning to leave at the end of the term, Hannah completes the administration for this. This includes contacting the Head of Department to find out if the member of staff have already agreed a leaving date and how much holiday entitlement they have taken. Letters are then drawn up and forms completed which are sent to the Principal for signing.
Communication...
Hannah is currently trying to get some up-dated information to go on the HR section of the website. When Hannah isn’t dealing with on the spot queries from members of staff and Head of Departments she takes the opportunity to contact staff to make sure the information is current.
Promotion...
Hannah is also working on a Leaflet for Worcester College of Technology regarding equal opportunities. All the text is finished she just needs to get a nice picture of a group of staff to go on the front. She phones a few members of staff and arranges to meet them at reception. After borrowing a camera from the Education Technology Department they all meet at reception for a few photos and then move outside to the front of the Spire for a few more.
The last half hour of the day is spent downloading the photos and adding the finishing touches to the leaflet.
Professional development...
After work Hannah goes home to work on her Management Report, the final part of her Certificate in Personnel and Development which the College have helped fund over the last two years.
