Dedicated students were commended at the Faculty of Skills and Technology annual awards evening on Thursday 14th January 2010. Almost 40 students from the departments of Hospitality & Catering, Sport & Leisure and Travel & Tourism received trophies, shields or cash prizes.
The evening began with a hot buffet prepared and served by the colleges VRQ 2 catering students. This was followed by talks from guest speakers presenting the awards to the learners.
The former Mayor of Worcester and now college governor Councillor Lucy Hodgson presented the awards to the catering and sports students. Becky Crewe the regional manager for Hays independent travel presented the awards to the travel and tourism students.
The College houses a number of industry specific facilities such as state of the art kitchens, a public restaurant (Spires Restaurant) and working travel agency (Spires Travel). The travel agency works in partnership with Hays travel to ensure it can offer great service and competitive prices.
Becky Crewe, Regional Manager for Hays Travel gave awards to Travel & Tourism winners and mentioned that, “Worcester College of Technology is the best College travel agency we work with, always gaining the best profits and level of service.” Becky also commented that, “These students are not only a credit to Spires travel agency and the travel and tourism department but the College as a whole – they should be incredibly proud of themselves.”
Andy Horton, head of Faculty of Skills and Technology commented that, “the staff are very proud of all the prize-winners achievements and it is always a pleasure to meet with them, their parents and employers to recognise their talents.”
The College would like to extend its congratulations to all winning students – keep up the good work!
The College would also like to thank the following companies for their involvement and support of the event.
